Screen Burn — the renamed studio formerly known as No Code — is a small Scottish team known for intensely atmospheric narrative games. Putting the Silent Hill name on their work is either inspired casting or a massive risk. Based on the trailer footage, it appears to be the former.

The CRTV mechanic is the most genuinely original idea in a Silent Hill game since Silent Hill 2's exploration of guilt. Simon's pocket television can receive signals from the Otherworld — detecting creatures before they become visible, tuning into fragmented broadcasts that reveal story information, and providing a layer of paranoia that the standard third-person perspective cannot replicate. The first-person perspective makes the fog more oppressive, the sound design more directional, and the threat of unseen enemies more real. Screen Burn's previous games demonstrated they understand how to use atmosphere as gameplay — Townfall appears to apply that expertise to the Silent Hill universe's best assets.

At $49.99 the Standard Edition is priced below the standard AAA baseline — an unusual decision that suggests either Konami's confidence in volume over margin, or a deliberate attempt to lower the barrier for non-Silent Hill fans who might be cautious about a new franchise entry. Either way it makes the buy-or-wait decision easier: at $49.99 Townfall is reasonable day-one value for anyone interested in psychological horror on PS5 or PC.

Silent Hill Townfall Editions — Standard vs Deluxe vs Steelbook

The Standard Edition at $49.99 is the right choice for most buyers. It includes the full game and all preorder bonuses (CRTV Style: Rusted and Beach Edition skins). The Steelbook Edition at $49.99 is the same price but limited to UK and European markets — it adds the physical steelbook case for collectors, with the same game content as Standard.

The Digital Deluxe Edition at $59.99 earns its $10 premium primarily through the 48-hour early access — if you want to start playing September 22 instead of September 24, $10 is a reasonable price for two days.
